Meet Memi

Memi Awerarise Dege's mother has died, and her father is not able to support her. Currently, she is living with her grandmother. Her birthday is May 22, 2005, and she is in the 5th grade.

Adoption: The First Month

We hope to provide sustainable support for these young children born into the most desperate conditions. By choosing this child for adoption, you will be billed for the first month of a monthly donation of $40. This money (with your adopted child's name) will immediately be available to our Ethiopian charity organization in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

They will purchase some basic necessities and clean clothing for your adopted child within a week, and this will be delivered to the child within two to three weeks after adoption. The children identified in this particular project are in remote villages, far from the capital city of Addis Ababa. We hope to present this we care package directly to the child, take a picture and confirm the adoption within four weeks.

Continued Monthly Support

Approximately three to four weeks after your initial payment, we will email you a note of appreciation. We will include this picture and request you go to the auto-billing webpage that will allow us to draw $40 from your account each month until you cancel or the child graduates from our program. You will hear from your child at least twice a year.

The children found on this page are from a recently discovered group of Jewish people in the central Ethiopia region, Menz Keya Woreda (district), Zemero localities. For centuries, the majority of people in this region have been convinced that Jewish people have the evil eye – that the Jews bring harm to others by merely looking at them.
Because of this fear, the Jews are societal outcasts. They are not allowed to live, work or purchase food or necessities, making it hard to support themselves in an already impoverished area. The children are impacted the most:
  • seldom have a single balanced meal per day
  • sleep in a small one-room shelter with 5-10 people
  • lack running water or sewage
  • only have one set of worn, dirty clothing
  • inferior source of clean water to drink or bathe in
The boys and girls have been able to attend some school through the sacrificial efforts of those they live with, but everyone is under daily stress for health and daily nutrition. If they do not receive help, the boys will be forced to quit their education to become child laborers, the girls will have to drop out of school to beg and eventually turn to prostitution to obtain their basic needs of life: food, clothes, and shelter.
The El-Shaddai Charity Organization (ESCO) has been combating similar conditions elsewhere but simply do not have the funds to help this community. It is for this reason that we are offering this personal orphan sponsorship to you.
